2019 Draft-Cross Gelding

16.2 hh

Meet Commander! This is Katie’s personal ride and "Wow", what a nice ride he is.

Commander is a big gentle horse that we have all enjoyed having on the ranch. Katie trained him to lay down and sit on command, all by herself. She is currently working on dressage with him. He is progressing nicely.  We have used him at the local saddle club to play games and sort cattle. He has earned his keep here on the ranch working cattle and giving kids rides with a sled in the snow. We have used him to pack elk out of the mountains and he will cross creeks, bridges or logs with ease. He has a good one hand neck rein.

We have rode him a lot western and english and he knows his leads well. We have used him a lot teamed up for giving wagon rides at weddings or in our small western town giving tourists rides around town. He will stop at stop signs and stand for tourists to get off and on. He has great barn manners and a healthy appetite.

He has good feet and no old scars or wounds. Sells 100% sound. Katie has rode him bareback over jumps or with his horse blanket on, whatever is handy at the moment, plus, he will follow her around like a puppy. We have used him to pony horses to and from our lease pastures. He goes through our obstacles course with no problems at anything.

Commander would fit into anyone’s program and excel!  Feel free to contact us with any questions.

Katie Miller, an 11-year-old Amish girl, is making waves in the equine world with her exceptional talent for training horses. Living on Sunset Ranch Equine, Katie’s life is a harmonious blend of tradition, family, and her undeniable passion for horses.
Katie’s bond with horses began even before she could walk. As a toddler, she would be seen clinging to her father’s side, soaking in every bit of knowledge about horse training. By the time she was old enough to ride, Katie was already demonstrating an innate understanding of these large powerful creatures.
What sets Katie apart is her unique approach to horse training. Unlike many who might rely on dominance and control, Katie believes in building a relationship based on trust and mutual respect. Her method is gentle yet effective, earning her the trust of even the most stubborn horses. “I have no fear of these big animals,” Katie often says with a smile. “It’s all about trust. When they trust you, they will follow you anywhere.”
