2020 AQHA Mare
15 hh
Sopapilla is a stunning red dun mare with a heart of gold and the kindest disposition you could ask for. She’s the gentlest, most versatile horse we’ve ever owned — truly a unicorn.
Whether you’re a youth rider, beginner, or just want something you can always trust, Sopapilla fits the bill. She’s a finished, solid ranch horse who knows her job and never misses a beat. She’s packed our four-year-old son out on early mornings with no issues, and our eight-year-old daughter has ridden her English, carried the flag in grand entries, and pushed countless calves out of the arena during rodeos. As well as shown her in ranch riding, reigning and ranch trail.
This mare is highly competitive in any of the VRH classes. She never gets fresh, is even trained to curbside mount for easy mounting. She’s also been shot off of and great around gun fire. She spent countless hours trail riding around the Canadian river and the Palo Duro Canyon. She crosses water and timber without any hesitation, careful with her footfall, and quiet around any type of traffic from trains to cars to dogs.
Sopapilla is incredibly easy to prepare and show. She spins, circles, and transitions with ease, she has a seamless lead change, as well as always soft in the bridle and responsive to her rider. She’s the kind that meets you at the gate, ready for whatever the day brings.
Her personality is truly something special. Sopapilla is sweet, gentle, and incredibly inquisitive — she genuinely loves people and thrives on attention. She’s the first to walk up in the pasture, enjoys being groomed and loved on, and forms a real bond with her humans. She’s patient with our children, affectionate on the ground, and has a calm, thoughtful demeanor that makes her not only trustworthy but an absolute pleasure to be around. She has a big heart, a kind eye, and a quiet confidence that’s hard to find. Whether she’s being handled by a child or asked to go to work, she’s the same consistent, level-headed partner every time.
Sopapilla is by SG FROZEN ENTERPRISE, a proven sire with over $274,000 in lifetime earnings in the reining pen. She’s inherited his athleticism and talent, paired with a laid-back, user-friendly mindset. Sopapilla herself has earned over $6,000 in the VRH events, proving her ability and consistency in the show pen.
Sopapilla equally at home in the arena, out on the trail, or working on the ranch, making her a true all-around partner. With her striking red dun color, finished training, and rock-solid temperament, she’s the kind of mare that fits every rider — from youth competitors to someone just looking for a forever horse.
Horses like Sopapilla don’t come around often, and once you meet her, you’ll understand why she’s so special. This mare has done so much for our family by teaching our children as well as our nieces and nephews the ins-n-outs of what a broke horse should be.
