2020 AQHA Mare

15 hh

Della is a 6-year-old grulla roan Quarter Horse mare with the kind of versatility, mileage, and athletic ability that make her a true standout. She is the rare horse who can pack beginners, husbands, guests, and first-time riders down the trail with confidence, yet still feel like a little sports car when an experienced rider picks up the reins.

Della has been hauled extensively across the U.S., including trips through Utah, Colorado, and Arizona, and handles new places, overnight stalling, expos, clinic demonstrations, obstacle challenges, skijoring, and busy environments like a seasoned campaigner. She is brave on the trail, rides out alone, leads confidently, handles traffic like a pro, and has repeatedly proven herself as a trustworthy mount for less-experienced riders in real-world situations.

In the arena, Della is broke, handy, and fun. She has open show experience and goes just as well Western as she does English. She has a strong foundation in dressage maneuvers including shoulder-in, haunches-in, leg yields, and side pass, with the ability to come up into a more correct dressage frame or soften into a relaxed, long-and-low Western feel. She has a good spin, a strong stop, has worked cattle, and is equally enjoyable bareback and bridleless.

Della is already a gem for ranch versatility, working equitation, liberty, trail riding, open shows, demos, and true all-around use. She also has a playful, trainable side with liberty experience and tricks including the lay down and Spanish walk. She is smart, willing, brave, and happy to try whatever job is in front of her.

For someone wanting speed, Della has plenty of athletic potential left to tap into. She has been introduced to the barrel pattern but has not been run, leaving that door clean for someone who wants to develop her correctly. She also has the grit, motor, and rate to be a jam up timed-event prospect.

Della is the kind of mare who can babysit a beginner on the trail one day and give an experienced rider all the buttons, feel, and athleticism they could want the next. She is easy to catch, tie, bathe, load, and stands well for the vet and farrier.

Come meet Della for yourself, and we have a feeling this talented, trustworthy mare will win you over just as quickly as she has everyone who’s ridden her.

Tiffany Stauffer, owner of Grace & Grit Horsemanship in Wilson, Wisconsin, grew up on a small hobby farm where her lifelong passion for horses began. Over the years, she has developed a well-rounded program built through experience in a wide variety of disciplines, including reining, rodeo, ranch riding, dressage, mounted shooting, liberty, bridleless riding, and trick training.
