Once in a lifetime, you find a gelding that not only steals your heart but also changes your standards for what a truly good horse should be. I’m honored to own and offer one of those rare horses. I’d like to proudly introduce “Armadillo.”

Bold, safe, and reliable are three words that immediately come to mind when describing him. He does everything with class, confidence, and a heart as big as the New Jersey sky.

Armadillo is my go-to horse. He’s the first one I pick when there’s a job to do and the first one I grab when it’s time to have fun. Under saddle, he’s solid and dependable. He has a nice-paced walk, an easy-to-sit jog, and a smooth rocking-chair lope. He’s soft in the face and sides, turns around correctly, stops on “whoa,” picks up both leads with ease, and is sure-footed wherever you point him.

Armadillo side-passes to open and close gates and stands quietly at the mounting block for both mounting and dismounting. He crosses water, climbs hills, and is the kind of horse that makes trail riding enjoyable. He’s been used to pen cattle at our local stockyards and is regularly used to gather our personal cattle.

Armadillo genuinely enjoys people and is always the first one to meet you at the gate. I’d like to think he was a puppy dog in a past life. He’s been ridden by youth riders and riders of all experience levels. He’s been to town, seen the sights, and if you asked him, he’d tell you he’s been there a thousand times before. Very little rattles him.

Kind, good-natured, and level-headed, Armadillo is the definition of a horse that stays broke. That’s one of the things I admire most about him. You don’t have to ride him seven days a week to keep him that way. Pull him out of the pasture after time off, and he’ll ride off the same as the day you turned him out.

Armadillo stands quietly to be tacked, is respectful for the farrier and veterinarian, and wins over everyone he meets. He doesn’t just take people’s breath away—he usually takes the extra cookie they forgot was in their pocket, too.
