One day he’s gathering cattle, the next he’s covering miles of trail, and before long he’s sailing over cross-country fences like it’s second nature. Heck, ride him into town, tie him outside the feed store, and don’t be surprised if he’s got a fan club by the time you come back out. He doesn’t just tolerate new places—he seems to enjoy seeing what the next adventure has in store. He’s the kind of horse that’s always ready to clock in, no matter what the day’s job may be.
Sired by JM On Time, a son of the legendary One Time Pepto, and tracing back to Peptoboonsmal and Doc’s Hickory, Chongo has the brains, athleticism, and natural cow sense to match his pedigree.
He’s soft in the bridle, rides off your leg, he carries an adjustable balanced stride to suit his rider and the kind of brakes everyone appreciates. He knows his spins, rollbacks, lead changes, circles, speed transitions, and backs willingly. He’s responsive off your seat and legs and can even be ridden bridleless. Whether you’re asking for a relaxed trail ride or something a little more technical, he’s willing, responsive, and enjoyable every step of the way.
He’s been ridden all over the ranch and down miles of off-property trails. Water, bridges, logs, steep hills, traffic, farm equipment, dogs, and new places are all part of the adventure to him. He stays level-headed, sure-footed, and is always ready to see what’s around the next corner. He’s also been exposed to bullwhips, large balls, tarps, and other obstacles, taking it all in stride.
Lately, he’s been having a blast schooling Novice-level cross-country. He naturally picks up his leads, and confidently jumps natural obstacles with an honest, willing attitude. He’s the kind that locks onto the next fence, and says, “Let’s do it again!”
Around the barn, Chongo is as easy as they come. He’s great to clip, bathe, load, haul, and stands quietly for the farrier. He’s the same kind, dependable horse whether you’re riding him or simply spending time with him.
